Top Ten Thursday is a weekly event by Weltenwanderer that lists a simple top 10 of a specific category each week. Today, I have about 10 books off my TBR list, which I plan to finish this year.
Well, as I have to say, I have more than 10 books on my TBR corpses, so I tried to choose these, which are either the longest on the list or seem tempting to me at the moment I write this post.
10 books on my TBR corpses I finally want to read this year
Jojo Moyes – Me Before You
They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . . .

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
The Hobbit
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

The Fifth Season – N. K. Jemisin
Three terrible things happen in a single day. Essun, a woman living an ordinary life in a small town, comes home to find that her husband has brutally murdered their son and kidnapped their daughter. And worst of all, across the heart of the vast continent known as the Stillness, a great red rift has been torn into the heart of the earth, spewing ash enough to darken the sky for years. Or centuries.
Children Of Time (The Broken Earth 1) – Adrian Tchaikovsky
A race for survival among the stars… Humanity’s last survivors escaped earth’s ruins to find a new home. But when they find it, can their desperation overcome its dangers?

WHO WILL INHERIT THIS NEW EARTH?
The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age—a world terraformed and prepared for human life.
But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them, pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind’s worst nightmare.
The Walking Dead – Kirkman Moore
How many hours are in a day when you don’t spend half of them watching television? When is the last time any of us really worked to get something we wanted? How long has it been since any of us really needed something that we wanted?

The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living.
Dune – Frank Herbert
Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for…

When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. And as he evolves into the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib, he will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.
The Duke And I (Bridgerton #1)
In the ballrooms and drawing rooms of Regency London, rules abound. From their earliest days, children of aristocrats learn how to address an earl and curtsey before a prince—while other dictates of the ton are unspoken yet universally understood. A proper duke should be imperious and aloof. A young, marriageable lady should be amiable… but not too amiable.

Daphne Bridgerton has always failed at the latter. The fourth of eight siblings in her close-knit family, she has formed friendships with the most eligible young men in London. Everyone likes Daphne for her kindness and wit. But no one truly desires her. She is simply too deuced honest for that, too unwilling to play the romantic games that captivate gentlemen.

I am really excited to read them. I didn’t put biographies on this list because I hardly read them and when I do, I need time with them, so I don’t pressure myself.
In the end, those are “only” 10 books. I’m curious of how many of them I actually get to read!
Do you know any of those books? Have you read any? What do you think of them? Would you now consider to read them? Let me know in the comments!
FYI: I decided to write the reply in both languages. German first, English as the second since the original comment was in German.

Hey!
“Dune” is schon eine ziemliche Stufe höher. “Me before You” Ist tatsächlich der Originaltitel von “Ein ganzes Halbes Jahr”.
Samy

I’m glad to participate! I was even a little bit excited. For the next ones, I have to go back to some older questions, tho.
That’s great! I try to keep it simple; not everyone’s on the same level, native speaker or not 😀
There’re lots of books that are pretty simple to read. I wouldn’t count “Dune” to them, but “American Marriage” might be, “Dare To Fall” and Ali Hazelwood‘s books are quite a simple read, and “The Hobbit” is supposed to be for children, so it should work as well 🙂
As an insider tip, on the one hand, yes, reading books in the original that you already know in German (or your mother tongue) is a very good idea. On the other hand, or possibly mixed with the first, books/ articles/ journals/ magazines that might not interest you that much and where it’s not a problem if you don’t understand all the words directly. Blog articles also count, of course 😀
The constant translating gets annoying at some point, but with reading comes the context 🙂
Good luck with them! Let me know how you liked them in the end!
“Dune” is a bit older and complexer to read. WOuldn’t recommend that for beginners. “Me Before You” is indeed the Original Titel to “Ein ganzes halbes Jahr”. I never wanted to read it, but it constantly appeared in front of my nose and someday, I just took it with me haha.
Sincerely,
Samy
// GER //
Wusste ich auch lange nicht, jap 😀
Huii, da hast du ganz schön was vor, viel Erfolg damit! 😀
// ENG //
I didn’t know that for a long time either, yep 😀
Wow, you’re up to something. Good luck with that! 😀
With Harry Potter, I know that it can get a bit complex because of all the fantasy and the terms used. I still plan to read it. I also wanted to finally start Game of Thrones, which also brings in a lot 😀
Good luck on that! 😀
Good M orning,
Have a nice weekend.

Haha verstehe xD Wie war London?
Wie findest du Dune?
“Die Kinder der Zeit”. Habs selber gerade recherchiert.

Haha I see xD How was London?
What did you think of Dune?
“Die Kinder der Zeit”. I just researched it myself. I would have thought they would leave the English title because it actually sounds good, but well xD
But I understand the zombies thing. It’s only occasionally with me.
Thank you, have a nice weekend, and good luck with your list!
