Death Note (Anime) is a dark and compelling anime series that follows the story of Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that grants him the power to kill anyone whose name he writes.
Death Note Anime Review
The first time I watched Death Note was years ago. But I love this one and constantly re-watch it, so I had to write about it.
I’m sure most anime fans know about it one way or another, but maybe some newcomers don’t yet.
However, on a re-watch, I usually only go until the first 10-15 episodes when a certain person appears, so I mostly focus on that part.
Directed by Tetsuro Araki and animated by Madhouse, it’s a thrilling and suspenseful exploration of power, morality, and the human psyche. The anime’s striking visual style and atmospheric soundtrack create a tense and foreboding atmosphere that draws viewers into its world. I love and enjoy every moment of the first half of the anime.
Light is a brilliant student but bored out of life until he finds the Death Note. With the notebook, he sees an opportunity to put more justice into the world. It makes him a killer, but as many as there are who love him, his actions get criticized, too. Just because as much as you want criminals to disappear, don’t they still deserve a life, even tho it’s in prison?
The relationship between Light and L, a brilliant detective tasked with tracking down the mysterious killer, is the heart of the show’s tension and drama. The two characters engage in a thrilling cat-and-mouse game that keeps me repeatedly on the edge of my seat, with each episode delivering unexpected twists and turns.
While Death Note can be dark and unsettling, it raises thought-provoking questions about justice, morality, and the nature of power. The show’s exploration of these themes is intelligent and thought-provoking, making it a standout example of the anime medium.
Final Thoughts
Death Note is a must-watch anime series for fans of suspense and drama with a mortal grey, smart main character but also a smart opponent. With its complex characters, thrilling plot, and compelling themes, the show is great at storytelling and will leave one thinking long after the final credits roll.
If I watch something more than once, it’s Death Note. Because of the thrilling rivalry, the chase by L and the police, and the constant thrill about their next moves. I definitely recommend this anime series. I don’t know if there’s anything similar.
Also, the soundtrack for the show is amazing. I love the first a lot and also listen to it from time to time. It always gets me back into the hype of the show. And the moral question this show gives me is what makes it unique.
What about you? Have you watched this treasure of an anime? Or do you plan to? What do you think of it, if you have?
Definitely one of my favorites!
Yes, I love it too!
One of the best anime so far
