Life is Strange Game Review (Square Enix, PS4) New

Game Review about Life is Strange by Square Enix, an episodic game which got first released for the PS4.

Why did I choose to play Life is Strange?

A friend recommended me the game, and I loved the technique behind it. Like, it’s an episodic game, it’s a lot of “taking pictures”, if you focus on it. And especially the end was so surprising and a lot of fun.

The Basics

Life is Strange follows Max Caulfield, Chloe Price, and a massive storm. Max discovers she can rewind time, reconnects with her old friend Chloe, and investigates the disappearance of Rachel Amber.

What Worked

What worked for me in Life is Strange was the character design of Max. I found her fun to play as, even if she’s not overly expressive emotionally. She stays pretty reserved, which isn’t unusual for protagonists in narrative-driven games — sometimes silence speaks louder than dialogue. Her reactions feel believable rather than forced, letting you project your own feelings onto her decisions.

I also really appreciated her connection with Chloe. The chemistry between the two girls drives the entire story forward, and their bond feels genuine despite the supernatural elements. That said, I’m still not entirely sure what to think about Chloe herself. She’s bold, unpredictable, and often pushes boundaries in ways that make you question her motives — whether she’s genuinely caring or more self-centered than she lets on. That ambiguity made their relationship feel more complex than a simple friendship, and honestly, it kept me hooked throughout the playthrough trying to figure her out.
