Why did I choose to watch Venom?
For me, the combination of the duo just did a lot right. They’re witty, humorful and charming, even the Symbiot as it’s own character has a nice personality. I re-watch the movie from time to time, because for me, it’s the best out of the trilogy.
The Basics
In the film, Eddie, a struggling journalist, gains superpowers after becoming the host of Venom, an alien symbiote whose species plans to invade Earth. Together, they must stop Carlton Drake and a more powerful symbiote named Riot from launching a planetary invasion.
What Worked
What really worked for me in this movie was the character dynamic. Both Eddie and Venom are witty, humorous, and surprisingly likable — and Venom himself manages to be oddly charming in a way I didn’t expect. There’s a comedic chemistry between them that carries a lot of the film, making their scenes together genuinely entertaining.
I also appreciated that neither of them starts off in a great place. Eddie is depressed and trapped in his own head at the beginning, struggling to get his life back on track after everything falls apart. The Symbiot, meanwhile, is dealing with his own alien needs and impulses, which don’t exactly translate smoothly into human society. Watching two mismatched characters — both struggling in their own way — slowly figure out how to coexist gives the story a surprising amount of heart beneath the chaos.
