The goal of the 23for2023 challenge is to read the number of books corresponding to the year we are in. This year, I have decided to add a fun twist by extending the challenge beyond just reading books. In addition to reading, I am incorporating various activities related to literature and storytelling that enhance the reading experience, making it more engaging and enjoyable.
Your To Be Read (TBR) stack needs a detox! Over time, our reading lists tend to accumulate books that we are excited about but might never get around to reading. This challenge encourages us to reassess our TBR stacks and prioritize the books that truly resonate with us.
In 2023, it’s crucial to rejuvenate the TBR so that it remains fresh and crisp. This means not only reading the oldest books but also discovering new titles that inspire us. I am excited to continue this challenge as it’s all about rejuvenating our reading habits and allowing the stack’s seniors to finally get their much-deserved reading time. By focusing on these older books, we can also rediscover forgotten gems that might spark new interests.
Roughly speaking, the aim for 2023 is to eliminate the 10 oldest books from the stack. This is not just a number; it represents an opportunity to connect with stories that have been waiting patiently for our attention, perhaps even revisiting some of our old favorites that we haven’t touched in years.
So, what do you have to do? It’s simple! Make a list of the 10 books that have lingered on your reading list the longest, and read one of them each month. To accommodate personal schedules, especially for vacations, plan for two months where you can take a break from the challenge to focus on other activities or enjoy lighter reading.
Make a list of the 10 books that have been on your reading list the longest and read one of them every month. Two vacation months are planned so that your to be read list can come to rest in due course.
The rules of the challenge are designed to keep it fun and engaging:
- This challenge is not a competition.
- Books that are discarded unread do not count as read. However, abandoned books do. In this case, however, the next book from the TBR moves up. The 10 oldest TBR book titles must, therefore, be read to complete the challenge.
- You can join at any time.
- Audiobooks, eBooks, and print books all count. The main thing is that the story is freed from the stack and the nice pile of unread books has become a little younger overall.
Challenge period: January 01, 2023, to December 31, 2023. Let’s make the most of this year!
